Here at Region of Readers, we love an opportunity to get out and about in the South West and soak up some of the rich literary talent the region offers.
As our programme of events demonstrates, we firmly believe that libraries are more than just houses for books. Indeed, they are gateways to whole worlds and universes, but they are also cultural hubs: spaces for meeting to discuss a shared love of literature as with our Shared Reading Groups, spaces to write, think and reflect. They also play host to regional and national writers who visit for talks, workshops and events.
Our partners, Literature Works have been touring a live literature production Word on Tour in libraries across the region. A 26-venue tour, this programme pairs writers and performers in exciting combinations to bring literature events to audiences who may not previously have experienced them.
Throughout the year, Literature Works have toured Devon Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and have just finished a run of events in Somerset. One of these events was held at Minehead library on 18th July, with novelist Andrew Miller and performance poet Lucy English.
Word on Tour continues for its final run of events in North Somerset. If you would like to attend one of these events, visit the Word on Tour Facebook page.
