South West based author John Le Carre is one of the best-known spy thriller writers in the world. He was born in Poole, Dorset.
During the 1950s and 1960s, he worked for the Security Service and Secret Intelligence Service and began writing novels under a pen name. His novels became international best sellers and following the publication of his third novel The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, he retired from MI6 and became a full time novelist.
His books mainly sit in the espionage genre and he famously draws on relevant conflicts and political situations which are put into a context which is relatable for his readers.
Many of Le Carre’s books have been adapted for film and television and the novels are celebrated within the espionage and thriller genre.
