It’s fair to say these are strange times, but out of the strangeness creativity and inventiveness can emerge.
In the early days of social distancing we saw a huge number of libraries trialling books-by-bike or books-by-post schemes to remain open and available for library users in the community. At the moment, every day brings something new to respond to and whilst library doors may be closed for a short while, one thing is for sure, libraries are so much more than houses for books.
Those places of stories, of information of enjoyment and escape are embedded in the community. We’ve seen library reading and writing groups move online, events are being re-thought, using platforms such as Zoom to ensure that readers still get the free and low-cost access to author events that libraries can provide.
Whilst the physical books and the stories they contain may be having a well earned rest right now, your local library service in the South West is still there for you. Did you know for example, that your library card entitles you to explore a range of cyber resources, magazines, films and eBooks as well as printed books?
