Nathan Filer has led a varied life. Evidence of the impact of his training as a mental health nurse can be seen in his debut novel.
Filer has also toured the country as a performance poet, made an award-winning film, lectures Creative Writing at Bath Spa University and volunteered as a human rights activist in Palestine. Winner of The Costa Book prize in 2013, for his book The Shock of The Fall, he has gone on to write for both The Guardian and The New York Times on a range of issues, as well as appearances on television and radio. He currently lives in Bristol.
