Celebrating libraries is at the heart of the Region of Readers project. We love that they house some of the world's favourite literature and that a single visit can provide a passport to whole new worlds. Time spent perusing the shelves can provide a reminder of a much loved book or the discovery of a new favourite but there is so much more to libraries.
As part of Region of Readers, libraries across the South West are running a programme of cultural activities featuring everything from author talks and book signings to Fun Palaces, story walks and photography exhibitions which tell a story. We’ve gone ‘behind-the-magic’ with a showcase exhibition based on the best-selling Harry Potter series at Poole Libraries and have been offering ‘digital hacks’ to help you get online and develop your digital skills.
Our partner, Literature Works have been running Word on Tour, a 26-venue live-literature tour of the South West, showcasing the literary talent of our region and asking the important question, ‘Why do libraries matter?’ Here’s a sample of responses, written on postcards by audience members at the events:
